Reminiscing on how far I’ve come in my journey of understanding friendships and becoming a better friend, I feel so proud.
When God was designing friendships, I’m sure He smiled, looked at it and saw that it was good. He knew that as humans, we would need a community of like-minded people, not necessarily formed through networking, but sometimes through the funniest coincidences. Some of the most beautiful friendships come from the most unexpected places.
Take one of my friends, for instance. I initially thought he was proud. How dare he speak to me for the first time through a dare? Who did he think he was? Well, I’ll tell you—he’s now one of my closest friends
I met one of my friends in the womb. We’ve been “womb to tomb” ever since. Two others, I met through my womb friend. Another? I noticed her because she wore makeup and a choker necklace to class. Then there’s the one who stood firmly on the hill of her feminist beliefs, and I couldn’t help but respect her. One wrote me a letter asking to be my friend (I’m a celebrity, I know). We’ve been friends for close to 11 years now. And let’s not forget the one I met simply because I wanted to eat at Radisson Blu. Looking back, that was a perfect day.
I’ve met my friends in different ways. I am grateful that all the challenges and storms we’ve faced have only helped us become stronger.
I love the concept of friendship. I’ve learnt and grown. I love how you can have people who lift you up when you need them. Even more, I love that I get to be there for people. The opportunity to offer help, give, and simply experience that beautiful aura of camaraderie is so fulfilling.
Friendship is joyful. It’s like building a self-sustained ecosystem, a thriving community.
I hope everyone gets to experience this—the kind of friendships that surprise you, shape you, and stay with you for a lifetime.
What are some unexpected ways you've met your closest friends? I’d love to hear!
I met a friend in church and became friends because she offered me food.
Such a good day that was.
Honestly, how dare he speak to you cause of a dare. Nah, that's too proud of him.
